Movie-Adaptation Monday!

There are a plethora of movies coming out this year, with many adaptations from books. I have a book pile that never dwindles and only seems to grow, but I have been able to get through some content recently.

This past week, I saw a trailer for a movie called The Bookshop, which immediately perked my interest. I do love a good book and find that a bookshop or library can be a haven for me – and I am sure that others feel similarly.

This movie rendition also has quite the cast! Just looking at the photo in the below screenshot, I feel like I belong in a town with a quaint bookshop like this one.

Right after I finished watching the trailer on Thursday or Friday evening, I located the ebook through my library and checked it out. It is quite a short story, with the movie taking the same name as the book: The Bookshop by Penelope Fitzgerald. I was able to read it within a day.

I will not give away any spoilers, but I will say it was eloquently written. Not every story gets a happy ending for all parties included. If anything, I wish it to have been a bit longer to find out more of what happened after the ending. I am quite curious as to what the rest of her works entail.

In addition to waiting for my book club book (A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles) and slowly making my way through the dense history with my small up and coming book club with a friend (The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson), I have also taken it upon myself to download another audiobook. This audiobook may not have gotten the greatest of reviews, but (like The Bookshop) I am intrigued by the cast for its upcoming movie:

A Simple Favor by Darcey Bell is my current listen while I take my long drive to and from work. So far I am but perhaps 7-10% through it and do not have too much to judge by just yet, but it is just beginning to unravel so, I can only imagine, mystery and potential mayhem lie ahead for these characters that I’ve only just been introduced to!

I am setting a better reading/listening record this year so far compared to last year! Now, what next to add to my growing pile of to-be-read-nexts?
