Mysterious Monday

Here we are again, ready to begin a new adventure!

This past Saturday, I held our monthly book club, and yearly annual raku pot painting party, to discuss Stiff: the Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach.

I was so pleased to find out that all who had finished or begun the book had really enjoyed it. When everyone received the title of my choice, some were a bit hesitant to say the least, but soon found the humor to make it an easier read through some graphic content.

We had a wonderful discussion about the history and science of the research in which having human cadavers has really benefitted us living beings! There really is no replacement for safety testing when it comes to our biological makeup.

We also had fun painting and firing some pots! This is the third year in a row I have hosted for a pot painting party and we will continue to do so yearly as able to!

Fresh out of the cans and pre-washed.

We also had the chance to decide who will be hosting next month and the book: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. After reading the quick description, I am quite curious to see how someone would cope with confinement.

What’s more exciting than diving right into a new adventure?!

Speaking of…I have a friend in another city and state that I speak to daily and we’ve decided to add books to our mutual activities. In the past, we have watched shows together while texting or Skyping and listened to podcasts and discussed, but realized that we haven’t tried adding books like our own mini book club.

We both love mysteries, murder and history, so we decided on a book as well:

We have decided, what better way to prep for Halloween season than a story of murder and intrigue that happened in her current city of residence?! We chose The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson.

Let the reading begin! Hoping I’ll be able to get through these two books as well as finish up the book I’m currently listening too:

I saw a trailer for the upcoming movie version of The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters and knew I wanted to know the story before the movie comes out. I am almost finished with this so that I will be able to really focus on the other two books I am attempting to read over the next month or so.

What other fun goals could I set for the end of summer?
