What is a weekend?

Ah yes, the weekend is here!

For most, the weekend is a time of relaxation and plans and events, but for me there is always some work to be done! However, when I do have the random weekend off, I make sure to fill it with calm and pajamas.

As we get ready for Halloween (one of my favorites, if not my favorite, holiday), I decided to get in the spooky spirit. I have quite the lineup of audiobooks, our next eerie book for bookclub to pick up and plenty of podcasts as well!

There is only so much time in a day and so many stories and movies to watch! Here is my current lineup and recently finished audiobooks:

I started September with Circe by Madeline Miller. I really enjoyed this tale as I have a love for mythology, but it also wove the tale around the perspective of Circe instead of just portraying her as a man-hater. It brought empathy to her story and presented it in quite an eloquent way – I would recommend!

As I saw an adaptation coming to PBS, and the fact that it’s been on my to-read list for quite some time, I finally got the extra push that I needed to get to The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. Now I can watch the adaptation!

Just yesterday I finished Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman. I always loved the movie, and it is the witchy season, so I thought it the perfect time for a tale of mystery, supernatural powers and ghosts. It is quite different than the movie, but also engaging as well. You find that you wish to know more and become involved in their lives to the point that you are rooting for them!

If you also have a chance to read her other book The Rules of Magic, go for it! It gives you a different history that paved the way for Sally and Gillian Owens.

I have begun the audio version of The Devil in the White City by Eric Larson as I have been getting a bit pre-occupied with work to read the physical book. My friend in Chicago and I have decided to read it together, albeit separately, to discuss when I go to Chicago in a few weeks. It is the perfect thing to get ready for the spooky season in Chicago! We are looking into ghost walks, food spots, etc. for while I am there!

Once through this, I have The Feather Thief by Kirk Wallace Johnson and The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware. All the audiobooks!

My bookclub has also chosen the book for October as well: Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier. The woman who hosts the October book club gets to claim it every year. There are only 1-2 months pre-claimed due to events. She goes above and beyond to decorate her house and we all love seeing it and being a part of it!

Here are just a couple examples of last year’s spread for Halloween!

In addition to all of that, there is an upcoming podcast that I am excited for. Aaron Mahnke has done it again!

What else should I look into this Halloween season?
