The Pants of the Traveling Sisterhood.

We all know the story of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, but did you ever make it become a reality?

It all started just over a year ago, when I was beginning to plan my second annual big trip with my childhood friend, Karon. We are both usually able to get a chunk of time off from our respective work places in May, so we deemed that the best time to make plans.

We wanted to choose someplace that would be fun, adventurous, and not your exactly normal destination. It was still chilly into the year here in Michigan and everyone kept visiting warm spots for their excursions, but when asked where we were going, what could we say? Iceland!

Isn’t it cold there? Why don’t you go somewhere warmer? Everyone is going there now! Where all are you going? How are you going? What even is there to do there? These were just a handful of the questions we received while planning. We took it all in stride and continued our planning and we were not let down!

Iceland was such a magical place full of beauty and wonder! The people there were so incredibly kind, the culture was fascinating and the views breathtaking. What more could we ask for?

We spent just over two weeks just driving around Iceland. It really allowed us time to explore, but you can only see so much in that short of a time period. Perhaps one day we will be able to go back!

I did a bit of research in preparation: what type of clothes to take, what kind of weather to expect, what random places to keep our eyes peeled for, and so much more. I even created a multi-page guide for friends once I returned home breaking down as best I could every place we stopped at based on location (North, East, South & West). I hope to write more extensively about my different adventures – I do have several journals from my trips!

I’m sure you’d like me to get back to the original point of this post: how does this relate to the young adult story of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants? Well, within my digging for best practice when visiting Iceland, it was suggested to get a pair of waterproof pants and coat/jacket if I wanted to get in a little bit more up close and personal with some of the waterfalls. So I did just that! Bought a nice pair of waterproof pants because of a recommendation by another blogger who had visited Iceland. I have no purpose to use them in my everyday life so I saw them as a vacation investment that was an extra treat.

They worked out beautifully! I got a pair that was a little bigger than my normal pants so that I could just pull them up over my normal clothes and be ready to move on easily when we were finished with that waterfall visit. Let me tell you, these were like sweatsuit pants; they keep you dry and keep all of your heat in. Not the most attractive, but boy did they work!

I utilized them throughout my whole trip!

Also, having a reliable pair of hiking boots also really came in handy!

Now, going back to my recommendations. I had many people ask me for my list of recommendations on where to go after I was back home. You never know if and when people will take your suggestions when it comes to traveling – especially to places not very close by.

I had originally made this list for my dear friend Katie, as she told me she was planning to go the following year. And so it began!

While planning, she inquired about many things, so I made my little itinerary for her and also told her that my waterproof pants, even as non-fashionable as they were, ended up being very worth while. She could not find a good pair around her so I mailed her my pair and a couple travel books in the hopes that, if the pants didn’t fit, at least I could send her some travel books for more options. They worked out just lovely for her! Just take a look for yourself:

You really can turn and look anywhere in Iceland and find a beautiful sight!

Katie went in April and I had another friend, Lindsey, who, upon Wow Air putting one of their main hubs in Detroit, was planning a trip within a month or so of Katie’s return. Katie had just gotten back and was about to put my pants and book in the post when I told her to ship them to Lindsey instead.

Here we go again!

We created Traveling Pants in our own way, but we all seemingly had to travel to Iceland to benefit from them. I can’t say that we didn’t all thoroughly enjoy ourselves as we each wore the pants though! Scroll back through all of our photos and I think you’ll find that it’s not the clothes that make us (however, they did fulfill their functional use in keeping us dry), but our willingness to leave our comfort bubble to go on an adventure!

Who’s next to wear the Traveling Pants?
