Time to bring the dead back to life.

Finally through all of my audiobooks and having finished a book for last weeks book club, I find myself with a night off of deadlines. I may be trying to catch up on some podcasts, but they’re not going anywhere.

Here I am at home, relaxing early after last night’s Oscars ran late…enter Netflix.

Whatever shall it be tonight? So many options, but what do I see? A little ad photo with Sean Bean on it looking quite sullen and deep in thought. What is this show called?

Here we are: The Frankenstein Chronicles.

For some reason, it comes off as being a new show although, after a little research, and the fact that there are two seasons readily available to stream, I can only perceive that it is not brand new. Season 2 is from late 2017, but season 1 is from 2015.

Not that it matters as I will still watch it. I am a sucker for a period piece and one that tries to tie in connection to a classic tale is even more so intriguing.

We open the story with the pieced together dead body of a child. How many children had to die to create it? Or is it how many dead bodies were put together? Is it a murderer and a sick being trying to piece it all back together? Or perhaps just someone fascinated with the body and thinks that they can create the perfect being? Could it be more than one person behind it?

Hopefully all of these questions and more shall be answered by the time the ends, but then what is season 2 about? I am just hoping for good health for our friend Sean Bean as his characters have a history of poor luck.

Sometimes I sit and wonder to myself how life would have been like had I been born in another time period or even just a slightly earlier decade. What would an “everyday” be? Especially in another country – one can assume life would be barely recognizable compared to what we have become accustomed to in today’s world.

The costuming is quite amazing. The details that go into movies, shows and plays are so incredibly awe-inspiring. The photo in the locket or pocket watch, the pocket square in the suit to the aging of the hat – they really do help to build the characters and help the actors to really, and truly literally, step into the shoes of another being and walk into that life.

Time to finish this first episode and quench my thirst for solving this crime!
