Murder Monday?

Time to get back on track with things!

What better way than with a potential murder mystery?!

I have really taken to listening to books recently as I spend a lot of time driving to and from work as well as computer work at work; sometimes giving me a good chunk of time to listen to a tale or chapter.

As I’m sure you might have gathered: I have a slight book buying problem…but I am determined to read more, get a fresh library card, use Overdrive and maybe invest in Audible as well!

Now onto the meat and potatoes of this post: today’s read (which I finished by last nights end).

The Fate of Mercy Alban by Wendy Webb.

What a tale so far! But is it murder? Could it be suicide? Is the house haunted? Or are our imaginations running wild?

So many questions keep circling back through the mind while reading this book. It was quite well written, in a way that flowed nicely while still leaving room for more mystery.

When I was young, and you can read about it in a past post, I grew up watching and playing the board game Clue. What I got out of it was that I thought it would be jolly good fun to own a house with secret passageways to other places in the house, but I never thought about how that would be if others knew about those passageways and I did not. Can you imagine blindly visiting a good friend’s home and them keeping it a secret? And potentially playing with your mind because of it? Well, this house would terrify me were I to visit the family in this spooky tale.

How would you react if you had to go back to a home that was no longer your home due to tragedies? Would you take on the role of the head of the family or just let it be remembered as a legend or legacy without you? That was what seemed to be one of the first thoughts on the mind of the protagonist.

Dredging up old memories can be tough, but reliving someone else’s life and death can be even more heart-breaking.

This book was such a mixture of emotions! There was romance, some horror, a partial thriller with a hint of the supernatural mixed in to it! It was a quick read that, once I got going, I could not put down.

Now onto another mystery perhaps? For Mystery Monday…
