Ah yes, it’s the night before Halloween and all through the house, no ghouls or goblins in sight and no werewolves howling at the moon…so what better way to pass the time than a little murder…or is it murder?
As I sit here, I am carving my pumpkin and finishing the end of a twisting and turning tale of deception, acceptance and growth. It takes me back to the first book I had the chance of choosing to host book club: The Girl on the Train. I had been in the group for half a year when my turn finally came around and I had heard great things about the author and book (and also, there was murder involved, so…). So, now, when I had heard the Paula Hawkins had another novel, I took it upon myself to find it.
The tale is not as simple as one might think up front. It gets you intrigued by hinting at buried past secrets that may unlock the true cause behind the death of one of its main characters, Nel.
Did she jump or was she pushed?
That is the real question behind the tale, but, just like real life, not every thing is quite so easy to explain and there are far more questions than just one. There are quite the round-up of characters, sometimes to the point of confusion, but it is quite easy to get so involved that you just keep reading (or in my case: listening) so that you can solve the mystery that isn’t just Nel, but every other character that you come into contact with.
I’ve really come into enjoying audio books. Not only are they great for long treks to work, but I find that I can get lost more easily in stories and sometimes better picture a tale when I can differentiate voices, accents and pace.
Now that I’ve finished with Into The Water, what shall I start next?
